In 2016, Bairdwatson Charitable Trust awarded 3 years of funds to support the work of OPFS in North Lanarkshire.
One participant spoke highly of the project saying ‘I didn’t know anyone my age who had children, all my friends were still hanging about the streets, going clubbing and still living at home. I couldn’t spend time with my old friends and the notion of spending some time with a baby soon wore off them. I was alone with my baby. Meeting parents my age who were starting college or going to work really had an impact on me, I just kept thinking to myself, well, if she can do it, I can. Being around and learning with parents who were in the same situation as me really helped me to think about what I wanted not just for my own future but what I wanted for my kid’s future’.
